A specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation known as Physiatrist treats patients with physical and/or cognitive impairments and disabilities that result from musculoskeletal, neurological or other medical conditions. Physiatrists have expertise in medications, therapeutic exercise and interventions for management of pain and spasticity, electro diagnosis, prostheses, orthoses and other equipment to assist daily activities and coordinate treatment to help patients improve their physical, psychological, social and vocational function.

Message from General Secretary

A Physiatrist or PMR physician is a medical specialist in pain, paralysis, musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatological diseases, diseases of nerve and brain, injury and illness related to disability. Physiatrist approaches to patient with a look at the person as a whole not just the disease or condition. BAPMR is the national medical specialty organization in Bangladesh that represents about 260 Physiatrists nationwide. The association started its journey in 1995 under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Md. Quamrul Islam the father of Physical Medicine in Bangladesh. Since the beginning the association has been sincerely working to raise the awareness regarding the specialty among physicians and general people. Our members are actively participating in scientific meeting at national, regional and international level with exchange of new ideas in the field of Physiatry. BAPMR has been organizing scientific seminars, symposium, workshops and international days related to disability regularly.

We are here again, with great scientific endeavor and academic commitment to our discipline, to organize the 10th Bi-annual national Conference of Bangladesh Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (BAPMR) to be held on 29 September – 01 October 2018 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Your active participation in the scientific sessions can turn this great gathering to a successful one. The theme of this Conference “Think Rehabilitation End Disability” expresses our emphasis on updating the knowledge of the professionals dedicated to manage pain and disability with contemporary scientific advancements by the wheels of rehabilitation. Eminent experts of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) as well as other related disciplines from home and abroad are expected to be present with their learned papers in this august gathering. We hope the participants will bring forward their most recent scientific works, so that newer and emerging concepts and innovations in the field of PMR will be projected adequately.

Dear Fellow Physicians and Professionals,

We congratulate all of you because your active participation has turned our last scientific conference, 9th biannual conference and scientific seminar of Bangladesh Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (BAPMRC0N) in December 2016, a successful one. We are happy to inform you that our 10th Scientific conference is knocking at your door, It will held on 29  September - 01 October 2018 at Bangladesh Bangabandhu International  Conference Centre (BICC) and Bangabandhu Shelikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. This year the theme of the conference is – “Think Rehabilitation End Disability”.

It is our great pleasure to invite all of you again to participate actively, with your scientific endeavor and commitment to medical education and research, in the 10th conference of the Physiatrists in Bangladesh. This will be a more enriched conference as a number of world class international speakers and resource persons are going to join the conference and pre- conference workshops on two important subjects will be held. There will be four types of academic sessions in the conference- A) Conference Lecture Session   (This  will cover the Prroblems of operation and expansion of the discipline,  wiII include scientiifiicc and social issues as well). B) Plenary Lecture Sessions, C) Free Paper Session and D) Poster Presentofion Session. Abstracts will be categorized for presentation according to their type and significance. Five principal areas will be emphasized in this conference, they are -

1)  Challenges of developing PMR in Bangladesh.

2)  Updates of Medical Rehabilitation.

3)  Advanced Pain Management in Musculo-skeletal and Rheumatic Conditions

4)  Newer Diagnostic Procedures and Interventions Techniques in PMR.

5)  Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in MSK disorders

6)  Current Research in PMR

In this Conference, for the first time, professionals other than Physicians who are related to Physiatry and Medical Rehabilitation will be allowed to participate as participant and also as paper presenter. So we are also welcoming Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Developmental Therapists, Rehabilitation Nurses, Psychologists, Nutritionists, Orthotists & Prosthetists, Social Workers and Professionals of any other discipline related to Medical Rehabilitation, to submit abstracts of their research work and or experience in the respective fields.

Our potential participants are requested to Choose their subjects,as far as possible, related to these broad headings for the Conference Lecture Sessions and Plenary Sessions. Other important abstracts will be accommodated in the Free Paper Sessions and Poster Presentations.

Abstract submission guidelines

  • Abstracts must be sent to bapmr2018@gmaiI.com with a cc to Dr. Monirul Islam: (moniruI852@gmaiI.com).
  • Interesting topic in the field of medical rehabiIitation, muscuIoskeIetaI health, tissue regeneration and pain management will be preferred for presentation and publication in the conference.
  • All authors will be required to declare any potential, real or perceivable conflict of interest. Abstracts should be of 300 words or Iess, in English, incIuding titIe, but not authors or affiliations. Left justified, single spaced,12 point, Times New Roman. Figures and references are not allowed.
  • IRB clearance number with date should be mentioned in the abstract.
  • All presenters must be registered to the conference and attend the meeting.
  • Title of Abstract should appear in bold, do not indent. Title should indicate the content of the abstract. Use first initial followed by last name, omit degrees.
  • For paper submission place an asterisk(*) after the name of author presenting the paper. On a separate Iine, type as succinctly as possible the names of institutions and countries.
  • Leave one blank in between the title/author block and the abstract text.
  • The abstract text should include background, methods, results and conclusion.
  • Each abstract must be submitted in electronic form as MSWord for windows2010, or any previous version.
